Mary and Bruce purchased their turn-of-the-century home from the second owners 30 years ago and have been perfecting their yard ever since. This beautiful traditional garden is set on a double lot and is a blend of privacy and openness. The front lawn is bordered by Encore and Red Ruffle Azaleas. A grove of 40-year-old Cherry Laurels and shrubs create a natural privacy screen for the back yard. The front and side yards are connected by winding stone pathways accented with stone sculptures and birdbaths.
Like a lot of gardens in the Heights, last year’s Derecho and Hurricane Beryl claimed several trees, including a 100-year-old Crape Myrtle and a large Pecan. This added considerably more light in the garden. While challenging, the Gerber Daisies, Firetail Chanille, and Pentas are filling in the areas with more sun, and the Camelias are waiting for the remaining trees to gradually add back more shade.
We would like to thank New Roots for a very nice gift card awarded to our September yard of the month recipients.
