“Ancestor,” Anthony Suber’s mathematically-designed and mind-blowing sculpture—part of True North 2021’s temporary public art project—is the artist’s interpretation of an ancestor, observing this life through the eyes of the sacred cardinal. Suber explains that “[c]hild-like exploration, anthropological discovery, and mysticism are the underpinnings of my work….Through personal interpretations of iconography and the reference of organic elements, I explore ways to preserve history while conveying mankind’s connections to the past.” And in a recent article for Houston Chronicle, Lifestyles, Andrew Dansby writes, “A graduate of the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and the University of Houston, Suber says his art lands in his own space of Afrofuturism, which he refers to as ‘ancient future.’”
