With the very first Heights Fun Run taking place in 1986 and still seeing over a 1000 participants at last weekend’s installment, it’s safe to say that this is a cherished institution in the neighborhood. This year’s in-person race was on Saturday, October 1 and drew hundreds of area athletes for either the in-person or virtual races (5K/10K), not to mention the littler budding fitness fanatics who bolted down the Boulevard for the Kids’ 1K.
As we’ve now moved the event from the beginning of Summer to the beginning of Fall, the Fun Run was an entirely pleasant way to get moving in the outdoors, and the After-Party and Awards Ceremony at Marmion Park provided fun for the whole family. Congratulations to each and every 5K and 10K participant! Check back soon for a list of winners by category.
Hats off to Event Chair & HHA VP of Fundraising Kinzie Verdell, who worked tirelessly with sponsors and volunteers to not only keep the Fun Run alive, but also make it a neighborhood event to rave about. We were delighted to receive this feedback from a 1K parent:
“I just wanted to pass on my thanks to all the organisers. I brought four 6 year-olds to run on Saturday and the atmosphere was fantastic…All the kids loved it and were proud of their accomplishment. We did the race about 5 years ago with my older two children and it was good then – which is why we returned but it exceeded our expectations this year!”
