Congratulations to our September Yard of the Month: The Dailey’s & Minale’s at 1117 Arlington
Johanna Dailey is a native Austinite who has called Houston home for about five years, finding that the Heights shares her hometown’s love of all things local, and Stefano Minale is a Manhattan-born transplant who has found the Heights to be a walkable haven in his nine years here. They bought this charming circa 1920 bungalow in 2016 after falling in love with its interior with reclaimed stained glass windows and a smart 2008 addition, but knowing they would need to show the landscaping a little love too.
They began the outdoor overhaul by landscaping the side yard, which was previously a gravel parking pad, and went on to add a pergola with ceiling fans to create al fresco living space along with accent lighting throughout, working with Chris Scuttio and Legacy Landcape for all projects. Relocating a row of azalea bushes to the back and three crepe myrtles to the front, Johanna and Stefano also added blue stone walkways throughout the yard and into the back yard, a raised bed of rose bushes and perennials, a water feature in the side patio area and even more greenery consisting of Dwarf Magnolias, Japanese Fringes, Lantanas, White Jasmine, and trailing rose bushes.
While bringing such a vibrant and livable amassment of yard space to life was no small feat, the result is simply stunning. Catch a glimpse next time you walk down Arlington.
We would like to thank Zone 9 Tropicals for donating a very nice gift certificate to award to this month’s Yard of the Month recipients!
