Congratulations to our September Yard of the Month: Wendy Adair at 928 Fugate

Wendy Adair, the owner of 928 Fugate, has enjoyed Heights living for over 25 years and has worked to bring a bit of a wild English garden feel to the landscape over the years. Her focus has been on keeping flowers in the yard for as many months as possible. Thanks to Mike Lowery, owner of Another Place in Time Landscaping, she thinks it will make it all twelve months this year.

The two front beds have been particularly full, beginning in the spring with delphinium and larkspur, and now as summer is fully here there is an abundance of flowers, attracting many butterflies, bees and hummingbirds. The plantings include multiple types of salvias, plus pentas, several varieties of zinnias (both large and small), russelia “firecracker fern”, gomphrena & angelonia. The red jatropha is the focal point of one bed and has bloomed endlessly since spring.

Every spring is greeted by a giant clump of bletilla “hardy orchid” as well as Encore azaleas that give color off and on throughout the year. An unusual yellow butterfly magnolia was added this last winter and is thriving, even with this heat. The bleeding heart vine will be blooming soon and well into the fall, covering one side of the porch. Various other foundation plants include holly ferns, asparagus ferns, liriope, abelia & nandina.

We want to thank Joshua’s Native Plants for the awesome gift certificate given to our September Yard of the Month recipient.
