Congratulations to our October Yard of the Month: Bill Weinle at 214 W 18th

Bill Weinle moved to 214 W. 18th St., the October Yard of the Month, in 2000.  In the early years, he had input from a landscape designer as well as master gardener friends. He soon began making changes to the layout of his front yard beds based on his own ideas. The Japanese magnolia remains, but the evolution resulted in lovely, layered beds of flowers and shrubs. The shrubs include loropetalum, Walter’s Viburnum, and a hummingbird bush. Crepe myrtles were also added.

There are many flowering plants scattered throughout in both beds and beautiful pots. Perennials include bougainvillea, pentas, salvias, blue plumbago and walking irises, offset by hardy foxtail ferns. Twice a year the landscaper, The Rice Organization, alternates annuals based on the season. The current fall plants include snapdragons, cone flowers and dianthus. Pollinators make themselves at home in the front yard which is framed by a fence of the owner’s design, consistent with the craftsman style of the house, and backed by a welcoming front porch.

We would love to thank Buchanan’s Native Plants for the very nice gift card awarded to our October yard of the month recipient.
