Here are the nominations for the 2022 HHA Board

These nominations are unedited and presented in the order they were received by the Election Committee.

Brian Richard, nominated by Cathy Richards

I would like to nominate Brian Richard for Board Member to the HHA. Brian resides at 843 Ashland Street and along with his family have been residents of the Heights since 2012.   From his previous residence, he was an active member of the Woodside Civic Organization and served as President for a two-year term (plus an Ex-Officio capacity before moving to the Heights).  He is a practicing commercial Architect and versed in development, construction, and community and neighborhood growth/improvement strategies. He can contribute to this organization in multiple ways.

Sheebani Patel, nominated by David Crowl

I wholeheartedly nominate Sheebani Patel to serve another term on the HHA Board. Sheebani is a native Houstonian, born and raised in Harris County to immigrant parents. She is a proud product of local public schools. Sheebani attended The University of Texas at Austin and St. John’s School of Law in New York. She has spent her career focusing on community organizing, city-and-state level advocacy, and health care. She now serves as Director of Strategic Initiatives for Population Health at Harris Health System.

Sheebani and her family are thrilled to make The Heights their forever community. Sheebani believes community is the most important aspect that the Houston Heights Association provides. She is committed to working through the HHA to ensure that the Board and volunteers show leadership in welcoming neighbors, maintaining lush greenery, and supporting great local cafes, restaurants, and shops.

I’ve enjoyed working with Sheebani over the past year and believe she adds a fresh perspective to the HHA Board. I am lucky to have her and her family on my block, where she has promoted strong communication for our neighbors, community and promoted local businesses. In a year where our block had several busted pipes and power outages, Sheebani stepped up supporting our neighbors and those in need. As a leader, I believe she can continue to bring this same trusted voice to the board.

Katye Tipton, nominated by Paula Rhinehart

I would like to nominate Katye Tipton for a position as a Houston Heights Association Board Member.  Katye moved to the Heights in September, 2019 having lived in Clear Lake and Friendswood of since August 2009.  She has been a person of service prior to and since she moved to Houston, having taken a position as Sign Administrator for the City of Houston Code Enforcement and then Director of the Department of Neighborhoods during the Parker Administration.  Katye was also a board member serving Friendswood Oaks Homeowners Association during her residency there.  She joined the Houston Heights Association once living in the Heights and submitted for volunteering right before the Covid pandemic changed our lives.  Before moving to Houston, Katye, a graduate of the University of Alabama, was the City Clerk of the City of Stevenson, Alabama for 13 years.  She hails from Birmingham but is a naturalized Houstonian with an experienced background in diplomatic neighborhood and city management.  Katye has served a short time on the HHA Board filling an unexpired term.  Katye is and will be a great asset to any organization.

Angela DeWree, nominated by Donna Bennett

I would like to nominate Angela DeWree as a candidate for the HHA Board of Directors. Angela is a strong supporter of our Houston Heights Association and our neighborhood. She has been active in various parts of the organization for many years. She formed and serves as Chair of the Urban Forestry Committee, constantly promoting the value of our abundant tree canopy. The Urban Forestry Committee organizes the annual Gift of Trees Days, and spearheaded the designation of Yale Street as the City’s first Green Corridor. For a number of years, Angela has tirelessly planned the agendas and coordinated the HHA’s monthly General Meetings – whether virtual or in-person. Angela is a current Board member, and is extremely interested in continuing in this role. Her positive, can-do attitude and creativity make her an asset to the Board.

Hardy Roper, nominated by Anne Sloan

I would like to nominate Hardy Roper to serve on the HHA Board.

Hardy and his wife are new to West 17th, but Hardy graduated at Reagan High School, now Heights High School Class of ’59. He grew up in the Heights and endowed a scholarship at Houston Heights High School some years ago. An author of three mystery thrillers set in Galveston, Hardy is retired after running his own insurance company for many years. “Walking in the neighborhood, eating at the Heights restaurants, and shopping at all of the wonderful venues, I’m glad to return to my roots. I love the changes that have been made that have, fortunately, not altered the sense of community and friendship that exists in this neighborhood.

Anne Sloan, nominated by Hardy Roper

I am proudly nominating Anne Sloan for the board of directors. Anne is a Houston native and longtime resident of the Heights. She will be a hard working and resourceful board member.
