Congratulations to our June Yard of the Month: Bart & Stacie Turner's Garden at 301 W 6th Bart and Stacie Turner’s garden at 301 W. 6th St started as just a nice place to sit in the morning and enjoy a cup of coffee. They started noticing butterflies, caterpillars, birds, bees, and ladybugs. Butterflies quickly became a favorite and how to get more butterfly action in the garden became an obsession. True North 2021 Features San Antonio Artist Danville Chadbourne

Like ancient relics, Danville Chadbourne’s three individual sculptures of stoneware and stone seemingly rise from the earth in the 600 block of the boulevard’s esplanade. Remembering Joy Stapp

We are deeply saddened to let you know that HHA Board member and Treasurer Joy Stapp passed away on March 26th. Joy’s passing stemmed from complications from the West Nile Virus that she contracted 10 years ago, but she ultimately passed peacefully. It’s hard to imagine a person more aptly named than Joy. She really was a joy to be around, always bringing a special warmth and positive spirit to every room she entered. Her passing leaves a large void that will certainly be felt on the [...]

The Heights Garden Club Honors Jim & Donna Bennett

Many of you know Jim Bennett and his lovely wife Donna. If you have attended events held by the Houston Heights Association, you have met this couple. They are active in monthly HHA meetings, are committee chairs, home tour docents and much more.  Donna won the Marcella Perry Award in 2005, was presented with a Citizen of the Year in 2012, and given the Legacy Award in 2019. Art Springs to Life on the Boulevard – True North 2021

And like magic, sculptures appear seemingly overnight along the trails of Heights Boulevard. Starting your tour at the neighborhood’s entrance sign and traveling true north along the esplanade’s winding trails, first up is Cary Reeder’s colorful and multi-dimensional “Treeodesic Dome,” made of galvanized steel and translucent vinyl on vinyl (artist featured below).
