If you’re looking to get involved with Houston’s green spaces, consider volunteering with the Love Park Advisory Council (PAC). Alongside fellow citizens and organizations, PAC members meet regularly to advocate for park communities, supporting a range of activities from recreation to education. FRIENDS OF PARK ADVISORY COUNCIL FACT SHEET
 FPCs are park community advisory coalitions comprised of citizens,
neighborhood organizations and agencies who meet regularly at their park
and Community Center.

 FPCs act as advocates for community-based programming to support and
ensure the needs and objectives of each park community are addressed
effectively.

 FPCs help identify and mobilize community resources for programs and
activities, coordinate fund-raisers, conduct volunteer projects, coordinate
and co-sponsor special community events.

 There are 60 FPCs that are instrumental in promoting recreational,
educational, and cultural and community activities in Houston parks, four of
which are non-community center based.

 The Department’s Friends of Park Advisory Council Guide and the
established ‘Rules of Procedure for Friends of Park Councils” serve as the
principle governance document of the groups’ actions.

 The Recreation and Wellness Division coordinates the efforts of FPCs in
developing and supporting programs that are inclusive of the various
segments of the community.

 FPCs receive guidance and direction from a team of Houston Parks and
Recreation Department professionals trained in community and liaison
activities.
