One of the great joys of our new and increasingly active social media channels is the ability to hear from YOU. Several residents raise concerns on these platforms that have reminded all of us that part of living in a great neighborhood is being a good neighbor. From crime prevention to keeping the streets clean and clear, we can’t overstate the value of tapping into the public services that depend on our input to maintain our quality of life:
City of Houston 311: Have you ever wanted to report a pothole, broken traffic signal, someone blowing leaves/yard waste down a storm drain, or graffiti while on the go? The Houston 311 app makes reporting issues like these easier than ever. The app uses GPS to identify your location and also allows you to snap a photo to add to your service request. Reports are automatically sent to the City’s 311 system and routed to city departments for resolution. Download it TODAY!
Houston Public Works’ Adopt-A-Drain: Have you heard about the Houston Public Works’ Adopt-A-Drain Program? It’s an initiative that was kicked off in April 2018, and it will allow us to help prevent future flooding, save taxpayers’ dollars and keep our neighborhood storm drains clean and litter free.
To Adopt-A-Drain in your neighborhood, please visit: www.HoustonAdoptaDrain.org, and follow these five easy steps:
- Sign-in with your name and e-mail address.
- Go to your e-mail inbox, look for the welcoming message, and click on the link.
- Enter your street address to search for a storm drain.
- Claim your drain and give it name.
- Keep your drain clean and litter free.
Once you’re signed-up, you will receive information and tips from the City of Houston and Keep Houston Beautiful. We would like to have high participation from the Houston Heights area, so please consider being a part of the program. #ClaimYourDrain
Last but certainly not least, the Heights Constable Patrol Program: We know that crime has been a concern in and around the neighborhood and are grateful to have our dedicated supplemental policing presence in the Precinct 1 Deputies we hire through this program. In order to maintain and hopefully grow this presence, we depend solely on subscriptions. Please consider joining or renewing the program today, if you haven’t already!
