This month’s Volunteer Appreciation & Awards Dinner (VAAD) will be the 48th edition of our longest standing annual event, and there’s good reason this one has stuck around. This night is always a fun occasion to thank those neighbors who have helped make the Houston Heights what it is today as perennial volunteers and to recognize those who are now running with the volunteer torch. If you love living in the Houston Heights, but can’t put your finger on exactly why that is, it likely has to do with the efforts of the amazing people at this dinner.

Chaired by longtime neighborhood servant leaders Linda Eyles and Danae Stephenson, this year’s dinner returns in-person to the historic Houston Heights City Hall & Fire Station. The theme this year is “Breaking out of the Cocoon,” which signifies our neighborhood’s gradual return to the sort of gatherings which bond generations of diverse volunteers, sponsors, and residents together around a shared mission to preserve and celebrate the Heights. While the last few years of events and neighborhood happenings have been largely virtual, the tireless work of our volunteers has certainly continued behind the scenes.
In addition to honoring the people and businesses who are the heartbeat of the neighborhood, we’ll also be announcing the winners of the 2021 Community Improvement Awards, which recognize the new/renovated homes and businesses which most improve the look, feel, quality of life, or character of Houston Heights. In other words, the ones that keep the Heights “Heights-y.” The Chair of this year’s Community Improvement Awards is David Crowl.
This fun, uplifting evening is open to all (whether you’re a current resident or simply an admirer) and will take place on April 24th, 2022 from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM at the Houston Heights Fire Station.
Tickets are $40 per person, $320 for a table of 8, or $400 for a table of 10. The event is BYOB, but tickets include catered dinner and dessert. You can purchase tickets by visiting our online store.
