HISD Volunteer Program
In the past year the Houston Heights Association, Education Committee, Chaired by Anne Sloan, has undertaken a project to interview principals of our local Heights schools to ask one important question, “how can we help?” During the conversations, one need became consistently clear – community volunteers. Readers, mentors, after school homework helpers, field trip chaperons, gardeners and much more are needed on an ongoing basis.
One of the wonderful things about living in the Heights is the diversity of our neighbors. Many of us work at exciting jobs in art, architecture, law, or engineering; many of us stay at home with children; and many of us are retired and remember fondly our former careers. All of these experiences and skills would make any Heights resident an excellent addition to the HISD volunteer roster.
Can you share some time with our local schools?
If interested in becoming part of our HISD Volunteer Team, please fill out the form below. HISD requires that all volunteers pass a background check before volunteering. In the next few weeks, you will receive information about the HISD background check process and as the school year continues, we will inform you of volunteer opportunities. Hope you can join us for this exciting project!
