Congratulations to our August Yard of the Month: The Taylor & Coonan Gardens at 2018 Columbia
This month, the Heights Garden Club is delighted to share the story of the front and backyard gardens 2018 Columbia by neighbors Rives Taylor and Lori Coonan.
Since they started over 15 years ago, these homeowners envisioned their outdoor spaces and livable, enjoyable, and sustainable not only for them but also the various wildlife who flock to the neighborhood. The native landscape supports migratory birds and pollinators from treescape to ground cover. Not only does this type of landscaping support biodiversity, it is low maintenance and has relatively low irrigation needs.
Working over the years with Jim Ruzicka at New Roots, Arborcare, Buchanan’s Native Plants, and Green Country Lawn and Landscape, the family has painstakingly crafted a garden full of indigenous plants that are resilient not only for our climate, but four dogs and frequent peregrinations over the years just as well. While the backyard is notable for water features, the front yard takes an English garden approach, as noted by a colleague from London, with a wonderful evening lighting scheme.
We would like to thank Joshua’s Native Plants for donating a very nice gift certificate to award to this month’s Yard of the Month recipients!
