Congratulations to our April Yard of the Month: Benita Jaimez at 439 W. 16th

The flower beds at 439 W 16th St are bursting with color now that spring is here. Homeowner Benita Jaimez and her granddaughter Angelica Vera have worked hard to get the flower beds (which they built themselves!) ready for pollinators, particularly butterflies and bees. With this in mind, they planted a wide variety of annuals and perennials. Gerbera daisies, pansies, zinnias, marigolds, snap dragons, dianthus, vinca, irises and sunflowers are just some of the plants blooming this month.

There are multiple fragrant rose varieties including a hardy climbing pink rose bush along the front fence. Butterflies are attracted to the milkweed, Dutchman’s pipe, and various herbs. Hummingbirds are attracted to the trumpet vine on the side fence. There are even a few tomato plants interspersed with the flowers. All the local nurseries know Benita as she is always looking for new varieties to add to her collection.

We would like to thank Buchanan’s Native Plants for the gift certificate presented to our Yard of the Month recipients.
