Hello from our November Yard of the Month Recipient!

I am Trish Schmid and I’m the proud owner of the property located at 741 Beverly St. Constructed in 2003, our home was designed by Sam Gianukos of Creole Design and meticulously brought to life with Lambert Arceneaux of Allegro Builders. The inspiration for our home and garden draws heavily from the historic residences of New Orleans’ Garden District and the enchanting botanical gardens of Paris, France. This vision was cultivated during our five-year stay in Paris before we returned to Houston to create this unique abode.

The landscape surrounding the home has transformed significantly since its inception. In the beginning, a lush layer of jasmine enveloped the black iron fence, providing a backdrop for vibrant plantings, including viburnum, pittosporum, hawthorn, knock out roses, towering palm trees and graceful birds of paradise.

Regrettably, the repeated cold snaps caused significant damage to our initial greenery, including the palm trees and the fig ivy that adorned the rear of the house, concealing the wooden fence. Thankfully, the boxwoods, holly, various trees and azaleas managed to endure. Although we had initially planned to replace the jasmine, we’ve come to appreciate the open, uncluttered layout. The garden now features the serene pool surrounded by drift roses, my personal favorite holly ferns, and sprawling giant Liriope.

I’m optimistic that spring will rejuvenate the landscape, restoring its natural beauty with the blooming crepe myrtles and wisteria.

We want to thank Buchanan’s Native Plants at 611 E. 11th St. for the very nice gift card awarded to Trish for being our November Yard of the Month. www.buchanansplants.com
