Heights Bicycle Rally & Scavenger Hunt
The Heights Bicycle Rally is only a
month away. (Sunday, Oct. 3rd.)Along
with the fun of using the mystery clues
to find scavenger hunt sites, there will
be some new experiences this year. This
will be the first year that the rally
route will include most of the new M.K.T.
Bicycle Trail.
This is something that should interest
those folks that don't pedal very often,
but plan on entering this year's event.
Masseuse, Magen Weisheit of Kneads
Houston is going to be on hand at the
end of the rally to give massages.
The rally is not a race, but the
residents of the 400 Blk of w. 18th are
forming a team. Group efforts seem to
pay off in the scavenger hunt.
All the kids that finish the 20 mile
course will receive finisher ribbons and
all participants will be eligible for
prizes.
Rally participants will receive their
rally packets at Marmion Park on the day
of the rally and can start any time
after 7:30am. They must finish by
4:00pm. The rally packet will include a
map, a clue list and discount coupons
from area merchants.
If you would like to contribute a prize
or volunteer, contact Rally Chair, Paul
Carr at
Torturet@aol.com or 713-869-0505.
Exciting
News about Donovan Park and Heights Playground
September 13 marks
the beginning of an $87,000 reconstruction
project for Donovan Park and the Heights
Playground. For the safety of our children, the
park will be closed until construction is
completed, which is approximately two months.
After completion, the park will be locked at
night to deter vandalism. The reconstruction
will be on both play structures. Three new
swings will be added, and all the lighting in
the
park will be replaced. There will also be new
picnic tables, benches, and a
bicycle rack.
This project is made possible by a generous gift
from Mission Heights and the Saunders Family.
Saunders family members are descendants of James
Donovan and Marcella Perry. The Heights
Association is funding the balance of the
project with donations made to the park. HHA
recently installed four new benches in the rear
of the park and reopened the Harvard Street
gate. To make a donation to the park
