Learn more about 2017 committee plans and Association events and maybe find something that you’d love to get involved in – Home Tours, Constable Patrol, Boulevard Beautification, Bike Rally, Education, and more! Bernie’s Burger Bus will be there serving their sliders and chips. Plus, you might be the winner of a lovely door prize!

At the January 9th HHA meeting, principals of area schools will present their schools’ goals for 2017, their programs, and how they feel our community can assist them in achieving their goals.

This is a wonderful opportunity for parents to learn about our area schools and explore the option of a public school education for their children. The principals will be available for questions and are eager to meet the parents and/or prospective students.

The annual HHA Business Member Showcase is free and open to all HHA Business Members subject to space availability. For more information and to sign-up, email business@houstonheights.org.

Board of Directors Election Wrap Up
Polls will be open for secret balloting in person from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM sharp. The Election Committee will tabulate ballots and announce the results during the meeting.

Everyone is invited to this popular evening. Come hungry; refreshments from local eateries will be served. Plus, you might be the winner of a terrific door prize! Doors open at 6:30 PM.

Houston Heights Association Board of Directors
In November, HHA members will elect six of our neighbors to the 2017 Board of Directors. Meet the candidates at the October 10 meeting when they will have the opportunity to deliver short campaign speeches.

November 8 General Election
On November 8, voters living within the boundaries of the City of Houston Heights as it existed on February 19, 1918 will determine if "the legal sale of beer and wine for off-premise consumption only" will be allowed within the current "dry area" of Houston Heights. Representatives from the Texas Alcohol and Beverage Commission (TABC) will explain state law as it pertains to "dry areas" and as it pertains to licenses that allow beer and wine sales for off-premise consumption.

"Four-legged Friends Night"
Monday, September 12th

Everyone and their dog is invited to this popular evening celebrating our four-legged friends, beloved members of our families. Meet a pair of dogs rescued in 2012, now at home with Trisha Royal, that are ambassador dogs for Citizens for Animal Protection. Hear from Heights rescue and adoption organizations. Plus the entire team of pet docs from Heights Animal Hospital will share tips for pet health and the K9 Couture will be outside.

Your family pets are welcome to come with you to learn about the Houston Heights Association, its parks and activities! This is also the meeting at which members will nominate each other to serve on the HHA Board. Meet neighbors and friends over refreshments at 6:30 p.m. before the program begins at 7 p.m.

"Heights Bikes – News, Events, Rides"

Join us for news you can use about bikes in and around the Heights at the Monthly Mixer, Meeting and Program at the Heights Fire Station. Meet neighbors and friends over refreshments starting at 6:30 PM.

Bike Houston will be there, with the Heights Annual Bike Rally chairs for 2016 Bill and Hannah White. The Heights Bike Rally is on the first weekend in October; hear about what’s new for 2016!

Thinking about a new bike, light, or lock? Heights local bike gurus will steer you in the right direction, from Critical Mass to safety and signals on Heights Hike and Bike Trails.

Park your bike at the Heights Fire Station, and come on inside where it’s cool to learn about the Houston Heights Association parks and activities at the HHA welcome table. It’s a casual evening where everyone is welcome.

Land Use Committee Chair Bill Pellerin has invited a representative from the City of Houston parking enforcement division and a member of our Houston Heights Constable Patrol to be at the meeting. These representatives can help us understand what the laws are with regard to parking and what we, as citizens, can do to manage parking in our area.

Equipping helping hands with the tools to make a difference. The Houston Community ToolBank is a nonprofit tool lending program serving other nonprofits by putting high-quality tools in the hands of the volunteers who are painting schools, repairing seniors’ roofs, landscaping public spaces, and more — guaranteeing that every volunteer is equipped with the tools they need to get the job done. 

For three pennies on the dollar, the Houston Community ToolBank provides fast and easy access to large volumes of highquality tools to increase the impact of service projects and community revitalization efforts.

Meet Lynn Edmundson, Executive Director of Historic Houston, Library, and Salvage Warehouse. 

Historic Houston is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to conserving and preserving Houston’s historic architecture and architectural resources through scholarly research, education, and advocacy of sustainable design. 

Looking for information about your Houston neighborhood? Want to peruse a back issue of Architectural Digest or This Old House Magazine? Need to thumb through books for ideas on remodeling or incorporating salvaged materials into your home? Come visit the Catherine Cage Bruns Resource Library located inside the Historic Houston offices. The Resource Library provides information on local and regional architecture as well as information about Houston’s neighborhoods and various resources on remodeling and renovating older buildings. 

All of the material at Historic Houston’s Salvage Warehouse has been reclaimed from historic houses that Historic Houston has deconstructed, as well as individual items that have been brought to the Salvage Warehouse.
